Pre-ride – 2015 CCMNC

A annual pre-rode for the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic (CCMNC) took place on Sunday (18th February). This is the opportunity for members to ride the route, as everyone is involved on race day as marshals, sector controllers, caterers, lead vehicle drivers and much more.

In what seemed like identical conditions as we had in 2014, we started in slightly overcast conditions. Some of the guys cycled from home to Carnival City, giving them an extra 45-50Km on top of the 3 route distances we tackled.

The slower members took on the 65Km route, while the medium-paced group rode the 103Km route. The race-snakes took on the 126Km route that the Vets (30-39 and 40-49) and Juniors will ride on race day.

Road conditions were mostly good, except for a few bumpy sections on the R103 (16-20Km part of the course), and the traffic along the R42  between Heidelberg and Nigel. Thank goodness we’ve got Eskom on our side, who have committed to keep all their contractor’s trucks off the R42 for the duration of the race.
